I loved this post from Bonnie Grove over at Novel Matters and wanted to share it with you all. Go read it and then come back. I'll wait right here.
Ok?? Did you read it??
So, what do you think? Is she right? What do you look for in a novel? Story or excellent writing?
I know of several authors that came to mind as I was reading her post. They are great storytellers but not necessarily excellent writers. And you know what? Judging from their sales it doesn't matter. What people want is exactly what Bonnie said... they want to get lost in a great story.
I sure do hope they get lost in mine this summer! :)

Marybeth,
Your book does sound interesting. I am looking forward to reading it. Sounds as though there is a little mystery in the meaning of the mailbox. I hope to get the book when it is released.

I would say good writing is my first choice but I have been known to suffer through a few badly written chapters because I was intrigued where the story was going.
I find that with most gifted authors, I am pulled in from the first page! I read the first Harry Potter book because I wanted to see for myself what Ms Rowling was writing that so polarized Christians. Some loved it some hated it. I was only going to read the first book to satisfy my curiosity but Ms Rowling had me hooked from the first page. I was one of those crazy people who showed up at the bookstore at midnight to get the latest HP novel. She is a gifted story teller. I have read some novels that I thought I would never enjoy simply because the author was such a good writer. Writing is truly a gift!
I want to get lost in a great story! Reading for me is an escape from the demands of life, hence my reason to get lost in a great story!
I love a great story, but it has to be written well because I will nit-pick every error there is which does nothing more than ruin a good read for me! :)
Please pray for me and my family. I was laid off last Friday and it hurts. We are believing and trusting in God right now more than ever before!
Prayers and blessings,
Rebecca
p.s. I really can't wait to read your new book--the cover has had me captivated since I first saw it! :)
