Karen Ehman's Weight Loss Wednesday

My friend Karen Ehman is doing a Weight Loss Wednesday feature on her blog and asked me to answer some questions about my weight loss journey. It's up today if you guys would like to read more about how I lost 30 pounds, going from a size 12/14 to a size 6/8 in just 3 months' time. It is possible! You can do it!

For a long time, I thought that those extra pounds were just part of having six children, that the weight was part of my sacrifice to bring them into the world. (I wore the martyr mantle well.) But that wasn't true at all. With commitment and determination and a LOT of God's help (My mom has named this diet the "Jesus help me diet." She's lost 40 pounds doing the same program I did. Go mom!!) I did lose the weight and I am SO glad I did. Check out Karen's interview with me here:

Now to just muster up the determination to take the dieting plunge one more time and lose those last pesky 5-10 pounds... I guess we know what one of my goals for 2010 will be!

Yay! This is EXACTLY what I needed! I'm in the middle of trying to lose weight & I really need a kick in the you-know-what to stay the course (away from the Hallowwen candy & Christmas cookies). I've lost 20 pounds & 2 sizes in 3 months (35 pounds from my all-time high). I would like to lose 30+ more. And I've only had 2 kids! My main impetus is health (alright - and looking better!).

Thanks for sharing your success - it's inspiring! I'm headed over to Karen's blog now. BTW, I'm in the middle of reading her book, "The Complete Guide to Getting and Staying Organized."

I have 5-10 lbs to lose too! Shall we try to do it online as a group? I've tried that before and I am just not as motivated. I'm going to read about you over at Karens..

What's the deal about caffeine? How does that affect weight gain? And doesn't Zen tea have caffeine? I have some weight to lose also and hadn't thought about needing to give up caffeine--do you hear the panic in my voice? I have 3 one year olds....no AWAKE tea??????

Wow Marcy! 3 one year olds. I can't even imagine. But I do know the One who CAN imagine, and He says that you can survive with no caffeine through Christ who gives you strength! (Not that I'm trying to be high and mighty, I also need to kick the caffeine and have decided in the past that having 4 kids 8 and younger is excuse enough. But Marybeth, you're right. Time to make the decision to give my husband a thinner version of myself. Time to kick the caffeine, flour, sugar habit and rely on Christ to give me strength too. ;-)

My naturopath taught me that caffeine spikes your insulin levels, making your body think you are full. Then you bottom out and gorge later. I would have just coffee for breakfast and have no appetite til about 11... at which point I would suddenly become ravenous and eat anything that wasn't nailed down. I no longer have caffeine for that reason-- plus just seeing how addicted I was to it made me afraid to use it in the future. So, I hope that explains the caffeine thing. I will say that my naturopath said that green tea (Zen tea is green) is fine. There are minimal amounts of caffeine in green tea but not enough to matter like coffee or black tea does. I still do enjoy decaf coffee from time to time too. And I like some herbal teas too!
