Momspiration

Today I was trying to alternately eat a bowl of grits for breakfast and unload the dishwasher (take a bite, put a cup away, take a bite, put a mixing bowl away) and my kids were DRIVING ME CRAZY. They were underfoot. They were fighting. They were noisy. So, I hit upon a burst of inspiration and got the Clorox wipes out. I handed each one a wipe and told them to pick part of the kitchen floor and clean it with their wipes. They ended up going through several wipes, then moved on to cleaning the fronts of all the stainless steel appliances with the special spray cleaner! The kitchen looks better and smells great now! And my kids were occupied long enough for me to clean my kitchen, eat my breakfast and even read some blogs!

Marybeth,
I just wanted you to know that I enjoyed reading your article last night in Parent Life, the Sept. issue. I needed to read that and will view "LOL" much differently now. Without repeating myself, if you are interested in why I needed to read it so, you can go over to Lysa's blog and read my comment from yesterdays post.
Have a wonderful day..
oh and aren't those Chlorox wipes the best.. Also..the Swiffer dusters..my 4 year old really likes to help out w/ those!

Mary Beth...I read your blog regularly but comment only occassionally. I had to laugh as I read your post this morning. When I was a little girl and we got to fussing(three girls in our family)my mom would hand us a rag and some Comet and we had to clean the baseboards!!I had not thought of that in years as I did not use that gruesome punishment on my own children. Love your blog and I am on the lookout for the book you recommended. We seem to like the same books. Have a good weekend.

I have blogged about wipes before (my choice is Lysol - http://betweenloadsoflaundry.blogspot.com/2008/08/clean-freak.html) and I've blogged about kids driving me crazy (http://betweenloadsoflaundry.blogspot.com/2008/08/passion-for-motherhood.html) so you'd think I would put the 2 together...
What a great idea, I will definitely try it. The boys are at the age where they still love to "help" (and yes, those are necessary quotation marks, cuz it doesn't necessarily help... sometimes it makes more work, but I digress...)

That's some great Momspiration! I'll have to remember that when the grandkids are over. Of course, Nolan is only 1, so I still have a while yet, LOL! Thanks for sharing, though. I love your tips and sharing about the kids. I have even put a few into practice myself. Once, when Nolan got cranky, I put him in the bed and let him just play for a bit. When I came back to check on him his attitude was adjusted enough to be a good boy for Nonnie.

Hi Marybeth,

We met briefly at the She Speaks Conference - I was in your class and enjoyed it very much.

I've done the same thing with my kids - and when you have four - that floor gets done pretty quick. I've gone so far as to assign tiles. Each kid has to do ten tiles and then there done.

Then we went and got carpet - go figure...

Sounds like my family today, except I handed them a towel and furniture polish and told them to attack the cabinets!

LOL!! I've used the Mr. Clean bathroom cleaner, the one with the magic reach & scrubbing pads. Best thing is, my son doesn't consider it punishment, he thinks it's fun. Fun for me too!
