I Don't Know Who I Am

This has become apparent to me as I've been reading this book.

I really liked the title. It appealed to me for a lot of reasons-- the profit part and the "without losing your soul" part. Because we've all seen those bloggers who seem to have lost their souls in the name of turning a buck.

To be honest, I didn't start reading this book because of this, my personal blog. I started reading it because I wanted to learn how we can make a profit over at She Reads. Because we actually need to make a profit or I think our husbands are going to stage a coup.

But as I've read the book, I've inevitably thought of this blog. Because I can multi-task. Because I'm a mom. And I also don't play favorites. Because I'm a mom.

Anyway, there's a list towards the beginning that says all the things not to do as a blogger.

I pretty much do them all.

Mostly what it says not to do is to not jump around with your subject matter, to pick a passion and focus on it. Be a reliable source that people will return to because they need whatever it is you're providing. You can't do it all or people will get confused.

So I made a list of subjects I'm passionate about. The list got quite long and as I looked it over, I realized I enjoy discussing it all. Which, if you've been reading my blog for any length of time, you've probably seen "it all."

That would mean:

Writing.

Reading.

Housekeeping.

Organizing.

Parenting.

Spiritual essays.

Cooking.

Decorating.

Humor.

Serious.

Vignettes about life.

I can't pick just one!

So I guess I should just be grateful for any of you who have managed to stick with me in spite of the fact that I'm doing it completely wrong. And my apologies for confusing you guys. I'll let you know if/when I figure out who I am.

But the good news is, we're doing it right over at She Reads, where all we talk about is women's fiction. All day, every day. You want women's fiction? There is NO confusion about where to go. Now to make that profit... and keep our souls.

Personally I think your blog is perfect! I love knowing I can come over here and you do write about different subjects, keeps it interesting for me. You write about real every day life and I always look forward to seeing new posts. You are very talented and your She Reads blog is superb as well. I must confess I check them both daily to make sure I don't miss anything. Keep up the good work!

My guess is you know exactly who you are and that's why people read your blog and pay attention. I am interested in your comments because you're a contemporary of our children and your babes, some at least, are close in age to our grandchildren.

I have a question about 'She Reads,' to which I subscribe. Is this a women's only literary post? Lately I've commented at a couple of blogs, complementary compliments, I wouldn't bother with less, and it was as if I was invisible. Maybe I've lost the plot and there's no interest in what guys think or have to offer relative to comments. If that's the case I'd respectfully stay away. Doesn't seem terribly inclusive but maybe that's not the intent.

I love the variety of your posts! I love that you talk about all areas of your life because, as a woman and a mom, I can relate! So don't listen to them - just keep doing what you're doing! (Just sayin' :) Happy Friday!

I have always enjoyed your posts about your everyday thoughts Marybeth. Personally, I am getting tired of a lot of the professional bloggers. In the beginning the blog community was more like a group of friends. I think that feeling is missing in many blogs. Keep on doing what you are doing and I will keep on reading!!

I love the way you vary your posts. It's like taking to a friend. I don't talk to my friends about the same topic every day, so you don't need to feel you're doing it wrong!

Your blog is one of the first ones I go to daily. You are random and i love it that way. I enjoy not knowing what you may be talking about and being surprised. Other blogs that I enjoy are based on one subject such as organizing so I know each time I visit what to expect. That can get pretty boring. Keep up with what you have - you know yourself better than you think.

I like that I never know what it is you are going to be blogging about when I check out your latest post. Keep up the good work!

I agree with all of the above comments. I like the variety, and it doesn't look like I'm the only one who ISN'T confused : )

I get the point the book is trying to make, though. I do appreciate blogs with a theme, but honestly I don't visit those quite as often. It does get boring to me. I have actually enjoyed yours better since you changed it up and aren't blogging about certain things on certain days.

You're a mama who's trying to figure out this parenting thing like the rest of us and you're a author/writer who's passionate about her art and shares it with all of us. I think your space here in this corner of the blog world makes it quite clear who you are.

Keep doing what you're doing : )

I've followed your blog for a long time and I enjoy all of your interests. I think that the professionalism of blogging has in some cases hindered the community sense that once existed. Keep up the good work friend!
