In A Food Mood: I Cook On Mondays


Today I am sharing what I think is a revolutionary concept. Kristen, a blogging mom, shares her idea about cooking once for several hours on a Sunday or Monday and being done for the rest of the week! I'd heard of cooking once a month but not once a week. That sounds much more doable and smart-- especially for those crazy weeks where you look at the calendar and know that a fridge full of meals would mean the difference in your sanity! I have cooked once a week for over 30 years. It makes it easy to stretch the food budget and meaant that we always had a sitdown dinner time no matter how busy the family was. I highly recommend it.

I love this idea. I want to know more about it. If I could save money and have things ready for the week. I would spare time on a Saturday or Sunday to do this.

I do this too, makes the week so much easier. I even make a homemade or frozen pizza and freeze in slices for a quick brown bag lunch for my kids on a busy school morning. My kitchen is a mess on Monday but I am done for the week. HIghly recommend trying this.

I'm not sure about cooking for a whole week at a time - sometimes fresh is much better than reheated. But I try to do double duty with a meal when I can - cook a whole roast and set aside half for a meal later in the week, cook up twice as much chicken as I need for the same idea, make paninis out of two loaves of bread so everyone has dinner plus sandwiches for lunches. I try to pop a large batch of popcorn for school snacks, prep lunch sides on Mondays (our only free afternoon all week) for the rest of the week, etc. I love how it feels to look at my counter/fridge on Wednesday or Thursday and know my work load is going to be light because of the extra I did on my less-busy days!

This is something I have just recently started and it is an AMAZING time saver! Plus, it gives you time off from cooking every single day.

Investing 3 or 4 hours on one day, plus an hour of shopping and an hour or so of planning yields 20 or more meals (depending on your deal-e-o).

It's a no-brainer for me!
