After receiving several requests for my recipe, I have decided to just post it again because I am too lazy to go hunting through the archives to find it. I promise this is the best banana bread you will ever make. And I have tried my share of recipes, yessiree.
This would make a great gift and if you get really ambitious, you can make 6 loaves at once like I did!
2 large bananas (very ripe... black)
1/2 cup melted butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups flour
3/4 tsp salt
1 cup sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 egg
1/2 bag of chocolate chips (1 cup)
Beat egg and add sugar, butter and bananas (which have been mashed with a fork-- kids like to do this). Add this to the flour, soda and salt which been sifted together. Add chocolate chips and mix well. Put in greased loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until it begins to leave the sides of the pan.
This makes a nice dessert as well served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream and some warm caramel sauce drizzled over top. We eat it for breakfast and a whole loaf is gone in one morning!
ETA: This just in! I just found these yummy looking banana chocolate chip cookies (scroll down to get to the recipe... it's there). I definitely know what I am trying next time I find some "past their prime" bananas!

Sounds so yummy. To bad I don't like bananas!
I'm so glad you posted this recipe!!! But I do have one question--what size loaf pan?? I tried to make Paula Deen's chocolate chip banana bread and put it in too small of a loaf pan (it was the only size I'd ever known about) and it spilled over the sides and right down into the bottom of my oven. Bread ruined. ARGH!
Can't wait to try this recipe!!!
Oh, and do you put them in mini loaf pans? If so, what is your approximate bake time?
Sorry for all the questions...forgive me!
Prayers and blessings,
Rebecca
Trench Mommy, my husband hates bananas but he loves this so you might just give it a try.
Tigger Daisy, I use regular 9X5 loaf pans for this and have never had them overflow. I never use mini loaf pans so I have no idea about baking time.
Thanks for sharing the recipe. I put chocolate chips in a lot of my breads that call for nuts since I don't care for nuts in foods.
Still would love for you to share the recipes for you meal plan Monday. :)
Marybeth,
I just made two loaves on Monday for gifts per your suggestion. Got the recipe on line.
Continued prayers.
How was your voice over the weekend?
Made the banana bread last night, and my house smells wonderful. It's dessert tonight, and my husband and kids can't wait to try it - thanks for the recipe!
Marybeth, I made this once before and it turned out fine......the last few loaves I made bake for an hour, get REALLY brown on top but aren't done in the middle...therefore they SINK in the middle and are a disaster... What am I doing wrong? The messed up loaves are 2 different batches and I followed your recipe perfectly like I did the 1st batch that turned out fine. Any ideas?
