Homestead Blessings DVD's: A Review and Giveaway

When I received copies to review of Homestead Blessings, I knew I was in for a treat. The West ladies who host the videos are crafting extraordinaires and seem so sweet! They walk you step by step through demonstrations for easy and inexpensive ways to make candles, soap and bread at home, often using things you already have. I gathered my girls to watch it with me, and they are really anxious to try our hand at making dipped candles. I personally want to make the soap. She pointed out the health benefits for making your own soap and I was inspired by what she said. I must admit, I am still nervous about handling the lye, though... I can picture me splashing it on myself. Thankfully they teach you to have vinegar on hand to neutralize it if that happens. Either way, I think we have some ideas for fun summer projects ahead of us after watching these videos.

If you are interested in learning some homemaking skills like these, I highly recommend these great dvd's. They are nicely done and presented in such a way that the projects seem doable. I will admit that by the end, I was fantasizing about having my own little booth on Saturdays at our local farmer's market, selling bread, candles and homemade soap with my girls. I wonder if that pays better than writing??

Want to win a set of dvd's?? Just leave a comment here stating which dvd you would most like to watch (the soap, candles, or bread) for your chance to win. Make sure your email, blog address or website is listed so I can contact you if you win! I will announce the winners on Friday so be sure to leave a comment by then!

They all sound really good! My daughters and I "make" soap using glycerin blocks, but I call it the cheater's version :o). (You melt it in the microwave and pour into molds.) I've always wanted to know more about the "real" way of making it, though I don't know if I would let them touch the lye.

I'd love to see the video on breadmaking. After my mom and dad have both had cancer, I am working on ways to get my 4 kiddos and the hubby healthier.

My mom used to make candles with the five of us for Christmas presents for family and our teachers. I would like the candle dvd so my mom and I could share that memory with my two children.

I so enjoy reading your blogg everyday. I was looking at it yesterday when my husband said "what a nice looking family" when he saw your picture. Thank you so much for your encouraging words and love of the Lord.

Hey there..
I make soap, don't know if I've mentioned that to you or not. Anyway. I don't make soap w/ lye though. I make the glycerin soap and we love it. So gentle on the skin. I'm always looking for ways to spread the word on it.

The soap DVD would be wonderful to win. I've heard making soap with goat's milk is a great idea too and maybe there's something in the DVD about that.

Thanks for the great devotionals. I look forward to the Proverbs 31 email everyday!

I love the idea of these DVD's. My daughter and I would enjoy trying to make candles. We're looking for some relatively easy handi-crafts to start off our first year of homeschooling.... I enjoy your blog so much!

I would love to watch the soap making one. Although I have a 7 year old boy who thinks he is simply too "big" for everything I think would be cool (I learned that when he thought that his first trip to Magic Kingdom this past weekend was such a bore) I would hope that this might be something at least a little interesting if not for him then definitely for me :)

Thanks for your blog--I have enjoyed all your stories and tips! I have been interested in taking on the challenge of making homemade bread without a breadmaker, especially since bread is getting so expensive! I would be interested in the bread making video for all the tips I can get!

Thanks!

I have been feeling God's tug on me to do more simplifying. Would love a DVD, won't be picky..lol...although I would probably do more bread making than anything. I truly have enjoyed reading through your blog.
