Good Thing

In my sixth grade son's class, his teacher has them go around and share their "good thing" each day. Throughout the year, he has looked at me while we've been doing something to say, "Mom, this is going to be my good thing." I like that his teacher has trained him to be on the lookout for the good things in our lives-- the moments that might slip by unnoticed if we don't learn to look. I just wish I had thought of it long ago!

With that in mind, I am going to try to share a good thing here on the blog each day for the next little while. I am sure many days I will have more than one, but I am aiming for at least one. I also want to initiate this at the dinner table when we are all together (which is rare these days with swim team taking over our evenings). I want to get my other kids looking for their good things-- and I want to hear about them. I want to hear their hearts and get a glimpse into their perspective. I have a feeling their good things and mine will be vastly different sometimes!

So, if you'd like, you can leave a comment with your good thing. Or post on your blog and leave a link so we can all visit. I am excited to begin looking for good things to share here. Lord knows there's enough bad things around... it will be refreshing to look for the good!

Hey mb - I love this! We have a family tradition of sharing "highs and lows" around the dinner table, or in the car or wherever. It leads to some good and fun conversations.

Today my good thing - a morning walk with my lab and a friend.

Reading your blog is one good thing. Another is getting to share some time with a dear friend this morning. A third is when my daughter (age 7) climbed into my lap and snuggled close this morning.

My good thing (the day has just begun) is that my six y.o. daughter had a friend come to her this morning as soon as she got to summer day camp and ask her to play. You see the first 4 days she had two little girls pick on her a lot and she was very "hurt". God answered my prayers (or should I say my pleas)for better days. Thank you God.

Our good thing happened this weekend-- while I was away teaching at a retreat, a microburst felled a 75 year old tree in our backyard. The good part was it missed our house by inches!! You can see pics here:

I love your blog...that being good thing for today (again, like the others, it is still morning) is that I get to sit at breakfast every morning with my husband before we get the kids up and going for the day. I love having that time "first" thing in the morning alone with him.

Thank you so much for the idea! I loved the do the next thing idea as well, and it continues to float around in my head daily.

I'm going to work on this for the summer with my kids.

Thank you!

My good thing... My hubby and I have been trying to have one more moo (I call my kids moos thus the name). It hasn't been going so well so it sometimes gets me grouchy, but my good thing is that I have four gorgeous kids that love me very much and my youngest son has learned to read!

We have done this with our kids as we put them to bed at night. Always interesting to see the day through their eyes. I did this very thing and posted it along with what God was teaching me on my blog post Simiar Shade of Green. Always overwhelmed by God's blessings!
