Now You've Really Done It, Part Two

Well, we just got back from the doctor's office. Ever heard that saying, "Be careful what you wish for?" Well, I am feeling that adage right about now as I sit here trying to absorb the ramifications of the visit to the doctor. We found out that my foot is broken in two places. When the radiologist told me, I started to cry. Partly from relief that there is actually something wrong and I am not just being a drama queen. But partly from the question: What in the world am I going to do now??

They told me that because the breaks are in the base plate of my foot where the entire weight of your body is centered, I absolutely can not put any more weight on it. (And yes, the past day and a half where I have been trying to walk on it was probably not smart in hindsight.) He also recommended that I see an orthopaedic specialist soon and find out if I need PINS put into it. Pins, people. He said I could probably avoid that, seeing as how I am not an athlete and I am just a mom. (Yes, he really said that.) He also said they might cast it-- right now I just have an Ace bandage and one of those ugly shoe/boot looking things.

So, prayers appreciated. And anything else you can think of!

Hey Marybeth! I'm sorry to hear that your foot is broken! I'll be praying for you and your family as you heal!

Oh Marybeth!!! "Just a mom" is the most valuable job in the world. If ever you're appreciated, it will be now when you're semi-out of commission. Would your realtor hire a nanny too? Blessings and quick healings... Laurie

Praise the Lord for being "just a mom" so you don't need pins! I will pray for comfort and healing and help!

I will pray you do not need pins but I know how hard it is to keep weight off. I had to go nine weeks without any weight on my leg and I am just now being allowed to put 60 lbs of weight on my leg. Praying for the adjustments you and the kids will have to make and praying your kids are as good about helping as mine have been.

So sorry to read about your day. Praying that the healing process will go well. Feeling for you. Praying also that God will provide for ALL your needs. And remember, your are never "just a mom" - you're fulfilling God's calling.
May God lift and encourage your heart,
Joy

Oh, I'm so sorry it ended up being broken so badly. I pray they won't need to do the pins. Please just be careful and try to allow it to heal - not easy for a busy mom, I know. Did he give you something for the pain?

I am praying for no pins for you and a speedy and painless recovery.

You held out longer than I did on going to the doc when I broke my wrist. I was convinced it wasn't broken, but it hurt so badly, I asked my hubby to take me to the ER to get some relief from the pain. You are a tough cookie if you tried to walk on that foot.

Get a fun color for your cast and enjoy being taken care of for a while. Hugs!

Oh Marybeth..I am so sorry! I have lifted you up in prayer this morning. Do what the Dr says! This could be a time that the Lord thinks you need some rest and for others to come and pitch in.
Hope your weekend goes well..

I agree with Alyce. It is slow down time for you missy! Just think of all the time you will have to read, research, write, and blog.

Lifting you up,
Paula G.

I have to tell you that getting a comment from "Mary Beth Whalen" on my little blog just made my weekend! I have really enjoyed reading yours for awhile now.

I am so sorry about your foot. I hate it when my body interferes with my life like that (the older I get, the more it seems to happen). I am not sure which would hurt worse, the foot or the "only a mom" comment. I have spent years trying to break that negative opinion. It's one of the reasons I debated going to the She Speaks conference (after all "I'm just a mom"). People can really do damage with their words.

Keep your spirits up. I would suggest a crown, a bell, a very pretty cup to drink from, a new bathrobe, a good book and anything else to make you feel like a princess while you recover!
