The August Challenge: Journaling

For the month of August I decided to do something different. I know many of us are finishing up vacations, taking last minute adventures, and trying to suck the marrow out of summer while others of us are preparing for a new school year, getting haircuts, and buying school supplies. Who has time to read blog posts?

So I decided that this month, each day I am going to post a quote, a question or a verse with a challenge to you to get out your journal and journal your response. Don't have a journal? Go buy one! And get a good pen while you're at it. Or, open up a file in Word and start typing it all out if that works better for you. The point is, to write.

For the rest of this week I am going to have questions that will get you thinking about yourself in ten years. I think that not only thinking about these things, but writing them down, is a good exercise for all of us. I plan to join you too. I hope that this month we'll discover some things about ourselves, setting the tone for what is-- for most of us-- just as much the start of a new year as turning the calendar to January.

I hope you'll play along and participate in this little month-long challenge!

Welcome back Marybeth! I will give this a try. I'm honestly not the best at journaling but I have been doing it with Wendy Pope as I read the Bible so my thought is to add your question to the end of that post. And you're asking for a month which is a reasonable start.

Ok I'm ready! Bring on the first question!!

Thankyou so much for your encouragement and words of wisdom. Just what I needed to hear, go back to God and let Him take over again. When I try to do things on my own I miss Gods presence, that peace just isn't quite there, that's when I know I have to take a step back and let God work. I am excited about the challenge can't wait. God bless you all love

Marybeth,
Today's devotion was just what I needed to hear. I too gasped in conviction. Thank you for sharing your heart. I'm also excited about your August questions. I've been wanting to get back to journaling and this may be the inspiration I need.
Blessings,
Amy

Thanks Marybeth! I want to be found faithful in my follow through! Just what I have been praying since I returned home from She Speaks.

New to your blog but need some encouragement to continue on with breaking some bad habits. Reading "Made to Crave" where Lysa attributes you with expansive encouragement for her weight loss. Will check back daily - thanks!

New to your blog too, but would enjoy a challenge to get me thinking.

I'm glad you're back and hope you had a restful, relaxing month with your family!

I was encouraged by your devotion today and think I will do the same as you and put that verse on my nightstand or bathroom mirror where I can read it often. I'm so guilty of taking the reins too many times. What a great reminder to rely on HIM totally and completely every day for every situation.

I'm excited about your August blogging idea. I've got my journal and pen ready to go!

Sweet Blessings,
Pam

Brand new here. Loved the devotional, so I thought I would check out your blog. I just turned 50, and starting a new school year, so this is a good time to look toward the future. Bring on the questions!!

Hi Marybeth! I just wanted to swing by and say that I finally got my hands on She Makes it Look Easy- I just started it last night, so I am only a few chapters in, but I just love it so far! I am excited to read more before bed (and probably stay up too late reading it!)

WOW! I can't believe this. Let me explain. Just last week i bought a notebook with intentions of starting on Aug. 1 a new Journal. I have off an on wrote down my feelings but decided that I would start Aug. 1 like a new year. After I read your devotion I felt like I was REALLY SUPPOSE TO DO THIS. Thanks for the extra push!

MaryBeth, I absolutely LOVE this idea! I am needing something to motivate me to get back at writing and it will be fun and exciting to check in here every day. Thanks for doing this. Can't wait to read your quotes and respond to your questions...need to get the brain back in geer and focused on things outside of "my world" right now.

Was doing some cleaning today and found that sweet pic of you at the P31 office when Diane and I visited last year. You just look so adorable with that pink scarf. :)

Blessings,
Joy

Sounds fun, Marybeth - I'm looking forward to your questions! This comes at the perfect time as I've been reading "Amy Carmichael of Dohnavuhr" by Frank Houghton which includes lots of excerpts from Amy's diaries. Reading those entries has spurred me on to get back to journaling - and now your challenge. God's timing is perfect!

Blessings to you . . .
