Thursday Thought

Today I have a devotion running at P31. Thanks to all of you who visit after reading about sunshine and shade. What are you in right now? Sunshine? Shade? What are you looking longingly at? Are you missing what God has for you right where you are?

I will post this quote from writer Ann Voskamp, who is going to be stopping by to visit soon here at my blog to talk about her most excellent book One Thousand Gifts. "There's a reason I'm not writing the story and God is. He knows how it all works out, where it all leads, what it all means. I don't."

It's like Lisa said yesterday-- it's the not knowing that causes us to trust God for who He is and not what He does. That's when our faith grows.

May you feel shade today if you're limping along in the heat. And may you feel sunshine warm your face if you've been shivering in the cold. And in those moments of grace, may you draw the strength to keep going.

Thanks for today's devotion. Currently I am doing the Made to Crave bible study in my home with some girlfriends once a week and reading your book Learning to Live Financially Free at night (as well as listening to your CD's in my car going back and forth to work!). My verse for 2011 is Deut. 2:3. While I do not have a lot of weight to lose (7 lbs. so far and 5 to go!), I do have a lot of financial "weight" to lose and I've been able to apply what I've learned from Lysa's book to my financial situation as well. We were almost out of debt (minus the mortgage) a few years ago but then the rains came, and we got off track. I have found your book so encouraging as we lick our wounds and get back on track... for good this time! Thank you for having the courage to share your story. It couldn't have been easy for you and Curt to do that, but I'm grateful you did. I'm now reading your book a second time because I was actually sad when I finished it! It's like a "fist pump" at the end of the day because, you know, playing the Debt Snowball game is NO FUN! I loved today's devotion as well... once again, it truly spoke to my current situation. God bless you and yours!

I still remember the many times when, like Jonah, I would question and resist God's way in my own life. But our God is very patient and loving and in the end He makes us see that there are days when we need the shade and others when being in the sunshine is the only place to be.

Thanks for the reminder.

BTW, I got The Mailbox today! Can't way to start!

God bless,

Wendy

Marybeth, I love reading your posts on P31...this is the first time I've visited your blog. Thank you SO much for the wisdom and encouragement you share. Your words were my shade and my sunshine today! I need to remember that God does indeed carry me everyday :)
