Ok So It's Cheesy But Then Again, It's My Blog

I am so saddened to hear that Patrick Swayze died. I didn't hear til this morning because last night we were out dealing with a family emergency-- my mom had surgery for a hernia that had gone awry. Without getting into all the nitty gritty details, suffice it to say they had to fix it and fast! The worst part is, they sent her home last night at 10 pm!! So Curt and I had to go home with her and my stepdad to get them settled, fill her pain meds, get some food she could eat, etc. We didn't get home til midnight and crashed when we did.

So this morning I was driving my boys to school and heard them talking on the radio about what Swayze movie was their favorite... and I just knew. Then another station played "I Had The Time Of My Life," and I knew even more, even though I hadn't heard an official announcement. I came home and looked it up online and found out.

I visited my friend Amy's blog and she wrote a beautiful tribute to him and has the music from Dirty Dancing up on her blog. So go read and remember when you first watched Dirty Dancing... and, if you are like me, leave the music up so you can soak up the memories. I dare you not to get tears in your eyes when you hear him sing "She's Like The Wind." So. Sad.

Now you have me listening to the music. With each one I can picture what scene it related to. I loved the movie, my oldest daughter and I use to watch it alot. She has a copy of it in VHS form and will probably watch it today.

One of my first crushes, a handsome man who could dance! He will be missed. :(

The first time I saw Dirty Dancing was in the theater, and I just looked it up on IMDB, and 9 yrs old was too young to be watching that movie, but I guess that never occurred to my then 15yr old cousin. :)

I will miss Patrick too...cannot forget him as Orry Main in North and South. That gorgeous southern accent and beautiful hair. Hope your mom is feeling better today.

I was so sad to read of Patrick Swayze's passing yesterday. I remember growing up and thinking he was so handsome. As a kid, I did watch that movie, though, I wonder why my parents let me! But now as a Christian, I couldn't watch it. Even though my flesh would want to, I believe watching the immorality in it would grieve the Holy Spirit. Even so with Ghost. Maybe I'll look up The Outsiders to see if it's a way I could remember him better.

I tried looking up more about him to get a better feel for where he was in his heart. What I found has made me fear where he might be today. (tears) I sure hope I'm wrong. It's so hard to imagine someone entering hell, never to be released - no matter how horrible they might have been on this earth. It's especially hard for me to think about those who live "decent" lives only to end up there. This makes me all the more grateful for JESUS choosing to endure the pain and agony for us - to give us that escape. I hope the PS heard of that and took it for himself. I would much rather think of him entering Heaven to be wrapped in the arms of our strong JESUS. Does anyone know if PS ever heard about JESUS? I'm assuming at some point he did since the Bible says everyone will have a chance before their time comes. Oh, I hope he chose it.

Marybeth, I wrote about Patrick Swayze on my blog too; I'm a child of the 80s too; and I'm very sad too. It's sad when those you've "grown up with" leave this world, even if you don't know them personally. I'm with Arlene...I LOVED him as Orry in North and South...and I'm with JD hoping and praying that at some moment in his life he said yes to Jesus. So. So. Sad.

I agree with those of you who wondered about his salvation. In fact one of my pastors and I got into that discussion last night. We can only hope that he did and pray that his family will experience God's comfort in the days to come.

MaryBeth,

Im praying and wishing a speedy recovery for your mother, I too know the feelings as my mother is also scheduled for hernia surgery and currently has an infection that stemmed from apendicitus. I also heart Patrick Swayze and pray for his family during their time of lost.
