Friday

Today I leave for Joliet, Illinois, just outside of Chicago. I am excited to see my old friends from Judson Memorial there! Nearly two years ago I spoke at their women's retreat so I was tickled to be asked back. I can't wait for what God has in store for all of us this weekend!

This was a long, strange week for our family. I can't go into details here on the blog, but just suffice it to say that raising teenagers is hard. We experienced that ourselves, plus saw it played out in the lives of some people around us. I have been sort of quiet this week here on the blog as I processed and prayed. I also looked for God at work in the midst of the struggles... and saw Him many times, still weaving his tapestry-- just using some colors I didn't exactly love-- contrasting colors that bring the subject into focus, necessary colors that I know are part of the beautiful masterpiece of humanity that He is weaving together from all of our lives.

I would appreciate your prayers for my trip this weekend. I am giving three new messages, so knowing I am being prayed for is always a comfort. I love the ladies of Judson and I have no doubt I will be blessed by my time with them just as I was before. My prayer is that my words are His words, because His words are what their hearts need to hear.

PS. I made this for my family to have tonight for dinner. Thanks to the marvelous crockpot, my family can have my cooking even when I am not home! They are having this with Stove Top Stuffing and lima beans (something dad can make easily), but it could be paired with lots of things. Trust me when I say that this is suitable for company.
I made two in hopes that there will be enough left over to shred, pour barbecue sauce over, and serve on buns for a nice Sunday lunch. I just love it when that works out. I also left out a bag of white chocolate chips in hopes that my 14 yo daughter will be inspired to make some chocolate white chocolate chip cookies. That is a dinner I am sorry to miss!

I will be praying for you this weekend. For your safety and for the Holy Spirit to speak through you and bless every woman that will hear you speak.

Teenagers....even if we had a manual, giving us day by day, step by step instructions, they would still tell us we don't know what is is like or things were different "way" back then.

So whatever is going on with you, know you have my prayers with you.

Have a great time this weekend!

Praying for safe travels and your message to be straight from God's lips to their ears. Sounds like a yummy dinner!

I will defintiely say a prayer for you this weekend. Also, thank you for being so inspiring. I have been struggling with how to take care of the family and do ministry full time. Your quick notes about how you leave dinner in the crockpot make me know this is possible; it's doable with God's help and some organization.
Enjoy what God does this weekend.

Praying for you, your family and your ministry.

I love the words you used to describe how God works creatively in and thru our "yuck." Truly the best blessings and joy come thru life's most difficult seasons.

Know that you are being covered in prayer.

I agree, your spin on "yuck" is refreshing. Keeping you in my prayers too.

There is definitely a new learning curve when you enter the season of raising teens. But hang in there as it is survivable and in the process you'll get to know the Lord much better!

Blessings,
