Venturing Out

Thanks to my sweet, longsuffering husband, I ventured out today. He hired a sitter and took me to Barnes and Noble for a writing day. I could not have done it without him. Being out showed me that I am not ready to try to go alone. He had to hold bathroom doors for me and drop me off at the curb, not to mention dealing with stairs a few times, which still totally scares me to do. By the time I got home, I was exhausted!

But I have to say that after several weeks of being cooped up inside all the time, the inside of a Barnes and Noble is a beautiful place! And of course anywhere that is filled with books is beautiful anyway.

Last week in one of my care packages from my P31 friends was a Barnes and Noble giftcard. So today I got to spend mine. I walked in, took my seat at a table and looked up to find the book I wanted right away. It was serendipity! Right within my line of sight was Beth Moore's new book-- To Live Is Christ. Since I have been studying Acts at CBS this year, this new book on Paul's life will be the perfect icing on this study. I have put it next in line to read-- just as soon as I finish Debbie Macomber's Knit Together. I am savoring having both of these gems by my bedside. To make things even better, I got the new Sonlight catalog today AND the new Above Rubies.

And so, I am going to stop my writing frenzy tonight and leave myself several hours to snuggle up with my books in my cozy bed. Getting out was great-- coming home was even better!

ETA: I was wrong. That book is NOT Beth Moore's new book. It was published in 01. But it is new to me and the timing of the subject matter was perfect for me!

Cuddling with a good book sounds great to me. I've been peeping in from time to time and have been enjoying your blog. Have a blessed weekend.

Glad you got out!

I actually work part time at Barnes and Noble. It is a fun place to work.

I hope you have a good weekend.

This is nothing related to this post, but I thought I'd mention it to you as your source of encouragement for the day (or night) for that matter.

I too attend CBS and we are studying Ephesians. My core leader was talking about how hard it must have been for someone as dynamic as Paul to be stuck in prison. Because he had nothing to do or no where else to go, God was able to write though him. She commented how cool it was that he was jailed so that we can all enjoy the fruits of his writings forever.

I immediately thought of you and your plight...how cool would it be for God to allow life changing words to flow through you because of your own "imprisonment?"

ps. don't worry...I'm not thinking of you throughout my day normally! I didn't want you to think I was stalking you or some "crazed fan".;)

I'm so glad you got out and had a fruitful time! B&N is indeed a lovely place to go; good for hubby for insisting on a change of scenery. What are you working on writing right now?

Hi Marybeth,
Can there be any better place to go than a bookstore? And Barnes and Noble is the creme-de-la creme of bookstores! I have to laugh at your description of all the help your husband gave you, if I had asked mine to take me to a bookstore I don't think he would have been so accomodating. My husband is a wonderful man but mercy is not one of his gifts (and reading is not one of his interests).

We are studying Romans at CBS so we are learning a lot about Paul as well. Maybe I should get Beth's book to read this summer. Next year we are going to do Genesis. What is on the agenda for your class? Someone mentioned doing Acts for the following year, have you enjoyed it?

Sorry to be so long-winded, it is so much fun to visit like this. Oh, and I have an interesting cell phone story but maybe I should email that, this is getting way too long!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Love, Kelley

It's been a blessing to keep up with reading your blog(s). I read and am blessed but don't always have or take time to comment. Thank you for the way you are allowing God to use you, your words and your sweet family.
In your post and also a few of your commenters have mentioned CBS and I'm curious what it is.?

Knit Together is a great book to stir the fires of your dreams. While her story is unique and her writing focus different than mine, Debbie Macomber really encouraged me through her book. I loved it. I may need to read it all over again.
