Already Today

It is 9:30 am. Already today I have:

read my Daily Message Bible reading for today

packed lunches for four children

unloaded the dishwasher and reloaded it

dried one load of laundry and washed another

collected the tablecloth from the table to be washed

made a list of errands and needs for when I am out today

begun packing for a weekend away with my husband

showered, dried my hair and dressed

dressed the two yo and fed her breakfast

answered an email that I had neglected involving all my speaking topics to be listed on the new P31 site

weeded out some emails

left a comment on a blog

tidied up the house

cleaned the kitchen sink with bleach

gathered library books that need to go back

Phew! Such is the life of a mom. So many little things to do each day-- I think sometimes it helps to catalog it all. To say: I did all this. And it does matter.

Last night we celebrated Curt's 40th at home. As is our tradition, I let him pick the meal. He said, "Something homemade." How's that for vague? So, I made country style steak with gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, and homemade yeast rolls. For dessert we didn't have cake. I made pumpkin crisp. His parents joined us, so we had a house full! It was a busy, loud, fun night. And after they left and I got the kitchen cleaned up, I crashed. I was so tired I was worried I was coming down with something. But today I feel fine, so go figure. I did take an Emergen-C this morning, just in case!

Here is a song the seven year old wrote and sang to her dad last night:
Hey dad, just because you're turning 40
Doesn't mean you're 40 to me
I still love you and always will
Don't worry you're not over the hill
Yet
Have a great birthday

Tomorrow morning, we leave for a weekend away at The Homestead in Virginia. This is part business, part birthday getaway. I know it will be beautiful and we are so thankful for this opportunity. We have hired a young, newly married couple to come and stay with the kids-- and the grandparents are on backup duty! Please pray for our family while we are gone. As much as we love getting to sneak away together, we also have mixed emotions about leaving all our kids with other people. But we trust that Allison and Aaron will be wonderful substitute parents!! (Although I hear that Aaron has his doubts!)

And so, that's an update on what is going on at our house. I hope you are all having a wonderful, Joy-full time of holiday preparations. I am so glad I married someone whose birthday is in December, as it is always special to include his celebration in the midst of the other special times in December. Happy birthday honey... and remember, it's not the birthday that counts, it's the happy! (That was on his card from the kids last night...)

My daughter has a December birthday too. Busy time of year!
Hey - that pumpkin crips sounds good. How do you make it?

ahhh! Have a great weekend away!

I have to disagree about the Dec. birthdays---we have THREE! My son, daughter, and husband all have Dec birthdays....and my son & hubby are the same day! We have such a mad rush of celebrations around here in the month of Dec.

Enjoy your weekend. You deserve it. And remember to tell Curt, 40 is small potatoes! :)

You sound just like me. It makes me feel good to list what I've accomplished - even if it's simple. And my husband's birthday is today! :)

I hope you have a wonderful weekend away. I enjoy reading your devotions and magazine articles - so I am thankful to have found your blog! Thank you for being so encouraging and showing others how to keep God in focus amidst the chaos of many children. :)

Thank for the Proverbs 31 devotion this morning. Yes, I often wonder how many times I've missed Him because I was not still enough to hear Him come by. How has it been at your house? Mine's been busy. I still have not been able to get my tree up yet.

I've been trying to make presents for my children. I only have two weeks and I have to make six plus my husband. I thought I should do something different this year. So, I am making a quillow (a pillow and throw in one)for each of them. I am having so much fun making them. Pray, God will expand my time, Ms. Procrastinator.

Anyway, I must go and attend to my visitors now.

God bless you on your trip.

Happy Birthday to your husband!

I absolutely love this time of year for all the festivity. I figure, its a time when the world cannot escape Christ. They try to move around him, try to make Christmas about other things, but he's still there, and it may be the only time of the year when they cannot overlook Him!

Hi Marybeth,
Just wanted to let you know that your blog encouraged me to finally try putting one together myself. I have had such fun getting it set up, I feel like a kid with a new toy! Also, I showed your husband's blog to my husband. He isn't interested in creating one but he was really encouraged by what Curt had to say. Thanks for the inspiration, I really enjoy your posts!

OK...you make me feel pathetic. I'm very excited to get dishes put away, 1 lunch packed and make my coffee by 9:30. What time do you get up to get that all done by then? I have a reallll hard time getting out of bed before 6:45. I guess that is because I can't seem to get to bed before 11:30. I can't seem to balance my time online...there is so much inspiration out there , plus I love to blog myself.
Anyway, congrats on your good day!
