Hey Marybeth,
It's Michelle Benton. I was just online searching for help on the Spell to Write to Read program and found your website. It looks fantastic and your family picture is beautiful. You all look so great and happy together! It's so nice to see how well you are doing. I just wanted to say Hello and I was actually thinking of you the other week. My oldest daughter was wanting to go back to public school b/c she is 6th grade this year and her friends have told her how neat middle school is. I told her no way. Then, like the next week, I would have loved to go and drop her off at the front door. I probably would have left tread marks on the pavement. I thought of you b/c I remember you sending some of yours back to school one year. I wanted to ask you about it and why you did it? How long it lasted and what made you decide to let them come back home. Well, if you can shoot me an email. Take care,
Love ya,
Michelle

Thank you for your devotional on 12/3 about SuperMom leaving the building. I have been really struggling today and I know God has a plan for our lives but it was so great to be able to receive the message straight from Him through you today. My husband had to be admitted to a mental hospital, an hour away, last week due to overwork and not enough sleep, his body crashed. I homeschool my teenage daughter who has fibromyalgia and my 10 yr old daughter had to stay home from school today with a flu bug. God is good, He continues to draw me to him to show me He loves us and watches over us. Thank you for being a part of His plan!

Dear Mary,

The verse you used for the 12/28 devotional on Proverbs 31 web devotional is a great one to take into the new year! "How can we honor God with our lives" (from Jeremiah 5:24, The Message).

I just read your devotion on Proverbs 31 for 2-15-08. It was so encouraging. I have just lost my home but I believe that God has a plan for me. It was uplifting to know that Peter slept even with facing tomorrow. Tonight I will sleep. Keep me in your prayers.
God Bless You,

Thank you, Mary Beth! This reminds me of Psalm 16:7

Hi Marybeth,

I just had to write you. In 2005 I attented the "She Speaks" conference. It was the BEST experience and God has continued to use so much of what I learned at that time to further ignite my hearts desire to share His Word and my life with others. I had signed up for the "Speakers Track", as I had received financial support from my church to attend the conference to receive further speaking training, but while I was there, I purchased your book, "For the Write Reason". Writing has always been my passion.

Well, life got busy, and here it is almost 3 years later, and the other day, for some reason, your book came to mind and I pulled it out from my "someday, when I have time, I'll read you" shelf and began reading it. I don't want to put it down! For years now I have had a longing to put to pen, words my voice is afraid to speak. I journal daily. I write "mini epistles" and call them "letters". Words have always held me captive. I worked in a Library for 13 years, then became a stay-at-home Mom for the next 15 years. Just this past September, God called me back to the work-force, to a job that I did not seek out or to where I had not even submitted a resume. In fact, I was not looking for work at all. The phone just rang one day and a lady offered me this position. I'm working part-time in a Christian bookstore! I am surrounded again with the swirling and dancing of thoughts, sentences, phrases - but this time they are calling me to join the dance.

It is almost impossible to just read one chapter of your book each day, but I want God to speak to me as I use it as a devotional, so I will not rush. I am underlining, searching scripture, listening for God and writing, writing, writing.

Thank you for obeying God and writing this book. It is a treasure. The Lord is speaking to me through it's pages and calling me not to abandon the dream He planted in my heart years ago.

God bless you. May He continue to use you to touch the lives of women and encourage them to be obedient to God's call.

Waiting on Him and writing for Him,
Joy

Hi Marybeth! I'm a new blogger and still find myself very insecure about posting. Due to the fact that I'm a chatty patty and am certain no one cares to read what's on MY mind. Even though I'm insecure about it I've begun to blog regulary to get more comfortable. So, I was reading your most recent post and wanted to share my comment about what I find most interesting in writings...i love to learn about people and how they "tick" so when a writer describes a person so that I can visualize their expressions that keeps my attention.
Not a profound answer by any stretch but maybe this will get the ball rolling for others to comment??

Marybeth,
I just want you to know how much I have been effected by your blog about homeschooling and how in our weakness He is strong. I began a new job last month after my twins began kindergarten, and everytime I get overwhelmed or feel I can't do it, I think, "In my weakness He is strong. I can't do it all Lord, but You can." He has come through everytime and I am experiencing such a new freedom and joy with my new job now. Thank you!

Yes, I'm sure blended families can work. But there are of coarse a slew of different situations. Mine wasn't one that worked because my Dad left my mom when I was 12 for another woman. I forgave him, however thru the years he continued to lie and did not repent to God or his children for the hurt and pain he caused everyone. My stepmom was a very manipulating woman, and they did all of this while claiming to be christian. So sometimes it is not healthy to be around people who are unrepentive and toxic, whether it be your family or not. Jesus said, Who is my mother , brother.. but those who do the will of God. The best we can do is pray for them, but stay away from them, in that condition. That also will allow you to heal.

God bless you

Marybeth,

I LOVE my new Bible you gave me! I use it everyday!!!! I had looked for years for the same Bible on Amazon. I called CBD and they didnt have it, I had googled the specifications for my exact Bible every month and never came up with anything!

The reason I like it so much is that I just know where everything is! After using it for so long, I can turn to any book lickity split!
It has margins that are big enough to write your thoughts, even outlines for devotions or messages.

Thank you so much Marybeth! The day I got the Bible in the mail I screamed, jumped and ran around giving everybody hugs you would have thought our house had been paid off!!

P.S. You were also the perfect cruise roommate! I love you!!!

Marybeth,
I just wanted to let you know how much your devotion on Monday meant to me. I am a mother of 4 (ages 12 - 16 months) and really try to get in some quiet devotion time in the morning before things get crazy. I'm sure you know how that is!
I read the devotion and decided to get my Bible and read the whole story of Gideon. I wondered "how in the world will this apply to me today?". I didn't see the connection.
That evening I had a mother-son battle with my 10 year old. It turned out to be a very upsetting evening for both of us. After some tears and alone time in the bedroom, I felt God telling me to get my Bible and read about Gideon again.
This is what he showed me:
Judges 6:11-18
v 12- He calls me a mighty warrior! and tells me He is with me! WOW!!
v13- my question was "why do my son and I struggle so much? If I'm raising him right, why is it not easier?"
v14- God says "Have I not sent you?" In other words, He has made me a mom for a reason. There is a plan.
v 15- Gideon says, "my clan is the weakest... I am the least of these..." I am no super-mom, I have many faults!
v 16- God says, " I will be with you!"
v 18- He also says, "I will wait for you, I will not leave..."

So Marybeth, God used your devotion passage to speak so clearly to me on a day when I just wanted to cry and give up.
It gave me courage and strength and reassurance of God's plan for my children.

Thank you and God bless your lovely family!

Good morning!
Today I read your devotional "When Your Worst Fears Are Realized" I knew exactly what you meant about God's nearness in trying times. My journey began in April 2004, my husband of 31 years left me. Needless to say his last words to me were: "No matter what happens today remember that I love you". There had been signs of trouble between us, but never in my wildest dream did I imagine that this person would say he just could not live with me anymore. Thus began a journey of Christian counseling for me. God was my constant in a world gone crazy. My fear at times was paralyzing. Through this separation I called out to God many times and he answered my every need. In the midst of this journey my brother became very ill and moved in with my Mother. I became their caretaker. This was such a blessing to be loved and needed. My brother passed away in September 2004 and my Mother passed away in July 2005. This time spent with them was God's way of taking care of me and helping me face fear and knowing that no matter what he is faithful and his love is constant. I was totally lost without my caretaking duties, but gradually learned to be kind to myself and to learn JOY again. My goal was to always seek God's will for my life, after months of counseling and prayer I consented to a divorce. This was the 1st step into a life that I had no idea how to live. Thankfully I had Godly friends and was very active in my church. At one point though the fear comsumed me so that I cried all night and begged God for his mercy. I ask him if there was a Christian life partner for me, would he direct our steps. He truly hear my prayer and I meet and married a wonderful Christian man who loves God and his family. We were blessed to be expecting my first grandchild and 2 days before his birth I ask the question "What if soemthing is wrong with our baby?" God was preparing me for my worst fear, our sweet baby boy was to begin his earthly life of 8 months. Through all the months spent in NICU and the procedures involved, we were prayed for constantly and knew that only God knew the days we would be blessed with this little boy. I still experience fear sometimes, but there is no doubt in my mind that is God faithful. My fear is tapped down by whispered words of prayer anytime, anywhere, and forever.

Thank you, Marybeth, for you honesty in the March 13th devotion on jealousy. Jealousy is like a weed in the garden of life; the more I focus on it, the bigger it gets! Thank you for reminding us to focus on Christ-the answer to so many of our issues.

I was so surprised to learn that you are a mother of six-amazing! I agree with others, you have a beautiful family. Blessings on your day and keep on writing!

Dear Marybeth,
I just read your devotional about the notebook with the scribbled pages as was so touched in my heart. Today I went to exercise and the darling girl that works there sadly told me of a friend who had just lost her baby after 10 years of trying to conceive. She had given her testimony in church and one of the members told her they believed she would get pregnant. The long and short of it was...she did right after! She was able to hear the heartbeat, but lost the baby before the first trimester was out. Everyone had rejoiced over her pregnancy...now she and they are dealing with why did God allow this to happen?
I am going to copy your devotional and give it to this young friend of Tiffany's to comfort her at the right time.
I see your beautiful family, and somehow I know you will pray for Tiffany as well.
God bless you and yours!
In Him,
Carla

Wow! What a timely devotional for me today. I just wrote in my prayer journal a few minutes ago that God was asking something of me. See, I have a rare lung disease and its taking a lot of faith for me to even write this but He's asking me to be humble even to the point of getting on oxygen. Obviously, I'll spare you the details but He said I wont regret it and promises to heal me. What you said in your devotional were the exact thoughts I was thinking. He will give me the grace for sure. Thank you and God Bless You.

MaryBeth, I am posting message after message....as many as I can squeeze in today along with laundry, toilet scrubbing, homework, and a little Yo Gabba Gabba....hoping to get a shot at the She Speaks scholarship. I really do feel called and inspired to speak to women about who Jesus is, what He does in my life, and all the ways God's truths and promises come to life through the most normal and abnormal-but-normal-for-us circumstances. Anyway, I wouldn't be able to attend without this scholarship. My husband is a minister and we are currently obeying our way out of debt....something your story encourages me in all the time...and there is just not any spare change laying around for extra dreams these days. I am confident that if this is not the door God opens for me, then He will walk me toward another one more suited for me and completely in line with His plan, but I am feeling led to at least pursue this one and see what happens. I have no doubt that this experience will be added to the list of stories of times when God taught me stuff and changed me inside, so it will be a win-win no matter how it plays out. Thanks for being part of this cool opportunity for someone like me.

Lysa your testimony and books has been such a blessing and an inspiration in my life and spiritual walk. I was seriously contemplating a divorce and I received an email from a friend and the topic you were speaking on happened to be on marriage, GOD was truly speaking to me. Since that day which was less than a month ago I purchased What Happens When Women say Yes to GOD, read it and it truly ministered to my soul, Next I purchased Being more than a good bible study girl--Truly Awesome!! My husband bought me What Happens When Women Walk in Faith on yesterday, I am loving it already. I am called to ministry and I know this conference is for me. My grandmother always tell me that I should have been a counselor she also prophesied to me saying GOD was going to use me for his Glory and to minister to other young woman. I know that GOD has a calling on my life and I just want to do his will only. I came into contact with Proverbs 31 ministry by divine order and I know that through your ministry GOD is going to help me to help others. Be Blessed!! Love Ya!! Oh I also purchased a NIV study BIBLe I have a Bible but this one teaches the word more understandable.

Mary Beth I can not wait till your book "The mailbox" comes out. I want to share my story about the mailbox with you. This weekend me and my boyfriend went on a sailboat ride and we got off on bird island, after walking a bit he got down on one knee and proposed to me. We didn't have time that day to check out the mailbox but came back the next day, thats when we found the mailbox, I sat there and wrote about my propsal and ask that God would bless our relationship our marriage and our family. So Bird Island and Kendered mailbox will always be a special place for us.. Just wanted to share that with you since it is so special to you ..

Hi MaryBeth,
I just read your P31 devotional and wanted to send a note of encouragement. My husband lost his job when I was 7 months pregnant with #4 and had been home with my children for several years. We were petrified! But God used our six months at home to let us care for my daughter Ava (who proved to be the most challenging of the 4) and to do some real team-building in our home. My husband got a new job after six months with more flexible hours that allowed him to work from our home 3 days a week for the last 3 years. I don't know what God will do with your situation but I DO know you will grow from it, and I pray for your peace and calm as you weather the challenge as a family. All things work for the good of those who love Him. Many blessings - Jen Z, NY

Just wondering if your husband has had any job opportunities, yet? I'm sure that is pressing on your minds. Quick question - I see you have lots of books under your belt. Can they be purchased at local Christian book stores or do we order on-line from Proverbs 31? I'm Canadian and so maybe it's easier to order or purchase here?

Hy Mary Beth,

I just wanted to let you know how much your devotion on Proverbs 31's email touched me today. I often have "Daddy Envy" after losing my amazing father when I was only 17. The void left has affected me in many ways and, although I was long since a Christian before his passing, have struggled with letting God fill that void. I will definitely pray the prayer of your devotion often as I continue to grow through this pain. Thank you!

Thanks for the gift of your insightful novel. I read it on the plane flying to the northwest and couldn't put it down.

You touched the heart of every woman in this book. We all know we're not good enough and we'd like to do better, but the truth is, God thinks we're pretty good the way we are. We need to model after Jesus, not our perfect, the one who has it all together and makes it look soooo easy neighbor.

Every woman needs to read this book so she'll appreciate what she has--not what doesn't exist in reality.

Hey! My name is Suzy Watts and i live in Davidson, NC. If I understand correctly, you live around here! I am 13 and reading your book The Mailbox. I heard about it through Our State Magazine. I have been going to Sunset Beach for as long as I can remember. My family has shared ownership of a house there for many years. I just want to tell you how much I am enjoying your book. I'm not quite finished with it, but I love what I have read! I go to the mailbox every time I go to Sunset, and like you,I love the mystery. Ever since I was a little kid, I have looked for the person who could be the Kindred Spirit and really belived they read what I write and really listen. Reading about familiar sites like I have in your book is great fun! I always thought of Sunset as a little corner of the world that no one knows about, but you have showed me that this little piece of heaven doesn't just impact me! I would absolutely love to hear back from you!

Thank you Suzy! I tried to email you privately but I couldn't find your email so I will just try this and hope you see it!

I am so glad you found my book and have connected with it. I spoke to a group of middle schoolers not long ago and several of the girls said they wanted to read the book after I read from it. I love that teens are reading it!! And I love that Sunset Beach is as special to you as it is to me.

I have two more Sunset Beach novels coming out. The Guest Book comes out this summer (July/Aug) and the next one comes out the following summer. I'm excited about these new books and I hope you'll read them and like them, too! If enough people like them and buy them, I might even get to write a few more!
