Marybeth Mayhew Whalen is the author of Only Ever Her, When We Were Worthy, The Things We Wish Were True, and five previous novels. She enjoys speaking to women’s groups around the US, sharing how the power of story informs our own lives. Marybeth and her husband, Curt, have been married for a very long time and are the parents of six children, ranging from elementary age to young adult. Marybeth divides her time between the shores of Sunset Beach and the suburbs of Charlotte, North Carolina. She is always at work on her next novel.

I'm a mom to 2 boys, ages 4 and 2.
I was a runner, too, until I became a mom. Then, I developed some of the same excuses you shared. After reading your devotion this morning, I thought "if Marybeth can do it, I can do it!" I would rid myself of the excuses and get back to something I love and miss - my running. When I clicked onto your blog, I was stunned to see your beautiful family with SIX CHILDREN! I only have 2 (23 mos & 6 mos) - how in the world are you able to incorporate them into your running?! I'm serious - practically speaking, how do you do that? Is running with a toddler and/or infant really doable?!
What are some of your favourite books?
I have 2 precious granddaughters, 6 and 2 years.

I have lost so many people in my lifetime. My mother and father when I was a teenager, one nephew with a brain tumor, another nephew through drowning. Then the love of my life, my husband, nine years ago. Writing through a journal and writing short stories and above all, just putting my feelings on paper has helped, especially with God's help.

My name is Wendy. I volunteer for Proverbs 31 as editor/translator for the Spanish devotionals.
I just wanted to share with you that reading your blog is a lot of fun and inspiration.
I used to write before knowing the Lord. After that, for some inexplicable reason, I never wrote anything again. My husband has always been encouraging me to do so. But as we know, there is an appointed time for everything.
Anyway, it's been a while since I started feeling the Spirit leading me to blog and do so with the Latin women in mind. I finally took the step a couple of weeks ago and it's been wonderful so far.
It's amazing how the Lord has become my one source of inspiration.
And I wanted to share this because your passion for words, as a Christian writer, is really contagious. Thank you so much!

Just found your blog as a result of Proverbs 31 devotional on worrying about money. It was a great reminder as we attempt to get out of debt.
I'm the oldest of 8 (10 yrs to almost 28 yrs), and my mom homeschooled, too. I can kinda relate to things you say.
But, above all, I LOVE your name - as I have the same name, and it's spelled the same!

I recently was in Charlotte, and staying with a neice who gave me "She makes it look easy" Normally this is not the time period I like to read, but having forgotten my book, I decided to give it a try. I finished the book, reading in my spare time, in 2 days! I can't wait to get to the book store for the next! My neice is the resistrar at Queens Grant in Charlotte, and a friend who knows you (don't know a name) gave her the book. I encourage all young writers, since this has always been a dream of mine to write. Too busy, and too old now! But, girl, you just keep on writing, because you are good! And love that family as much as possible, because they grow up much too fast! Gena Lewis

I just stumbled upon your site from another link and it brought joy to my heart to see all that you've been up to and the way God has brought such favor on your writing career. So neat to see all your books in the sidebar, while remembering that one long car ride out to the TVC Retreat when we got to know one another. Thanks for mentioning in the Author's Note to Things We Wish Were True that you belong to a writers group. If you haven't blogged about that, you should do so sometime. Local writers groups exist all around the country and are full of very creative writers, some very talented, some just wanting to record their own or their family histories with no thoughts of getting published.
