He understands what it means to "pick up" at Nonnie and Paw Paw's before bedtime and before he goes home. He also brings a bottle or pacifier every time Liam cries. He's a big helper and I can see this carrying over into chores for him at home. I can't wait to share this with my bonus daughter.Laurie Annhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10125770034519297114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3762514.post-21807679466329243342009-04-16T11:21:00.000-04:002009-04-16T11:21:00.000-04:00We were never successful at making one system last...We were never successful at making one system last for more than a few months. It worked best for us to keep mixing things up as to what was required and rewards/consequences that could be expected.

The important thing is to give the child ways to become independent, while at the same time giving them a sense of ownership of the home.

We also got our kids involved while fairly young in church ministry. A sense of ownership in the church is crucial. Too many youth groups and children's ministry are so entertainment focused-- and the children don't get any sense of contribution to the body. Even helping set up chairs (we met in a school) or holding babies in the nursery gives a child a chance to "belong" as a contributing member. They also get to interact with other adults, crucial to their understanding of the body of Christ.Julie Zine Colemanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16929069403684878757noreply@blogger.com
